Wizkid, one of Afrobeats’ most iconic figures, has unveiled his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Morayo, on Friday, November 22. Released via Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records, Morayo is a deeply personal project dedicated to his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.
The album title, Morayo—meaning "I see joy" in Yoruba—reflects Wizkid’s journey through grief and celebration of life. In July, Wizkid described the project as his finest yet, tweeting, "Best album I ever made!! Now listen! It’s only up from here!"

Chart Success and Legacy
Morayo follows Wizkid’s critically acclaimed 2021 album More Love, Less Ego, which debuted at No. 2 on the World Albums chart and reached No. 59 on the Billboard 200. That album included hit collaborations with Ayra Starr, Skepta, and Don Toliver, among others.
Wizkid’s previous work on Made in Lagos earned him two Grammy nominations, with "Essence" featuring Tems becoming a global anthem and hitting No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
This year, Wizkid and Asake were also nominated for a 2025 Grammy in the Best African Music Performance category for their song “MMS.”
A Tribute to His Mother
At its core, Morayo is a heartfelt tribute. Tracks like “Pray” and “A Million Blessing” are infused with themes of gratitude, love, and resilience, showcasing Wizkid’s ability to turn personal loss into musical triumph.
